If you're shopping around and expecting to see a MetLife auto insurance quote, here's the short version: MetLife no longer sells car insurance directly. It's not a carrier you can quote as a stand-alone company anymore.

What happened to MetLife Auto Insurance

In April 2021, MetLife sold its entire auto and home insurance business to Farmers Insurance Group in a deal reported at roughly $3.94 billion. MetLife itself exited the personal auto insurance market as part of that sale.

If you already have a MetLife auto policy

Existing MetLife Auto & Home policies were transitioned to Farmers Insurance Group. If MetLife auto insurance is offered to you as a workplace or group benefit, that program is now called Farmers GroupSelect, and it's underwritten and serviced by Farmers, not MetLife.

What this means if you're comparing quotes

There's no separate MetLife quote to add to your comparison — a policy that once would have come from MetLife now comes from Farmers (or, if it's an employer benefit, Farmers GroupSelect). If Farmers is available in your state, it's worth including in the quotes you compare.
