21st Century used to be a well-known name in California car insurance, but it's no longer a brand you can get a new quote from. Here's the current picture, and what it means if you're shopping for coverage.

About 21st Century

21st Century Insurance was acquired by Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, a deal that closed back in 2009. Since then, the brand has continued to operate under Farmers, but it has since stopped writing new auto policies altogether.

21st Century today

As of 2026, 21st Century no longer sells new car insurance policies. New policies are now written under Toggle, another Farmers-owned brand, and the only drivers still carrying 21st Century auto insurance are existing California customers whose policies haven't yet transitioned.

What this means for you

If you're looking for a new quote and were considering 21st Century, look at Toggle or Farmers directly instead — those are the brands actually writing new business today. If you already have a 21st Century policy, it will continue to be serviced as normal until Farmers moves it over.
